Lance James are experts in knowing know what women want, and this year they have the power to get in there and make all their dreams come true, because although
tradition decrees that a man should propose to a woman, 2012 is a leap year, which means that she can seize the initiative and propose to him. Watch out, boys!
When the rules of courtship were stricter, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years. That day was February 29th.
The tradition is believed to have started in Ireland back in the fifth century when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the fed up females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.
Leap day Engagement
Buying an engagement ring can be a daunting prospect for a man, and the thought of getting it all wrong can actually delay his proposal! With the women back in charge though,
tradition is turned on its head and sisters are really doing it for themselves. Let’s face it, nobody knows more about shopping than women…These days, more brides are opting to buy their man an engagement ring too. And once you’ve popped the question, you can go shopping together for rings, and make sure that you both choose the right engagement ring for you to treasure for the rest of your life.
Taking the initiative on leap day takes away the uncertainties of ‘Will he or won’t he?’ ‘What sort of ring will he get?’ and ‘Will it be the right size?’ Taking control and popping the
question yourself takes the worry out of getting engaged.
Gents Engagement rings
Many men opt for white precious metals. While Platinum and 18ct white gold are very popular, and the increasing availability of Palladium means that heavier designs are available to more customers. Don’t forget the diamonds; they aren’t just a girl’s best friend. Plenty of men like to have a diamond too.
Lance James specialises in timeless, masculine designs, and has a huge range to choose from and professional jewellers on hand to help you with one-off designs in the on-site workshops.
Leap Year Day is fun and exciting – but you can have fun all year round and make your dreams come true. Lance James wishes you the very best of luck for 2012 and especially when you propose!
